A motion submitted by former President Donald Trump’s legal team in Georgia requested a judge to quash a special grand jury report that may suggest charges against Trump for election-related crimes.
The legal team also wants to eliminate evidence reportedly “unconstitutionally derived” from the report and disqualify the leader of the inquiry, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
Trump’s attorneys challenge Georgia statutes permitting special purpose grand juries to investigate criminal allegations and suggest charges but unable to issue indictments.
Conversely, distinct grand juries can rely on the evidence to issue indictments. Trump also accused Willis of being a “biased prosecutor with a personal interest,” referencing her social media activities, which have previously caused issues.
The motion filing, comprising over 400 pages of exhibits, has been widely criticized, but some suggest it might be a strategic move to delay the inquiry’s progress.
