President Trump signed an executive order Thursday easing the tariffs on some Canadian and Mexican imports after implementing 25% tariffs on all imports earlier this week.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, President Trump resumed tariffs against Mexico, Canada, and China under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, demanding they cut off the flow of illegal immigrants and fentanyl into the United States.

With this, the President has brought in nearly $2 trillion in investments in U.S. manufacturing, including recently from automaker Honda, which announced it will produce its next-generation Civic hybrid in the United States instead of Mexico to avoid potential tariffs.
“Reciprocal tariffs start on April 2,” the President also noted while implementing the tariffs on Tuesday. The Gateway Pundit previously reported that President Trump signed an executive order placing sweeping reciprocal tariffs on every country that charges the United States taxes or tariffs on imported goods.
On Thursday, President Trump modified the tariffs to exclude goods that qualify to receive preferential treatment under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and reduce tariffs on energy for manufacturing and potash fertilizer for farmers.
According to the White House,
- Duties imposed to address the flow of illicit drugs across our borders are now:
- 25% tariffs on goods that do not satisfy U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) rules of origin.
- A lower 10% tariff on those energy products imported from Canada that fall outside the USMCA preference.
- A lower 10% tariff on any potash imported from Canada and Mexico that falls outside the USMCA preference.
- No tariffs on those goods from Canada and Mexico that claim and qualify for USMCA preference.
- While the situations at our Northern and Southern borders continue to require appropriate action from the Governments of Canada and Mexico, our American automotive industry, which provides American jobs, should not suffer significant disruption just because of the structure of its supply chain.
“It basically makes it more fair for our car manufacturers during the short-term period before April 2. April 2 is a little bit different,” President Trump told reporters while signing the orders Thursday. “That will be much more significant, but this, during this interim period between now and April 2, this makes it much more favorable for our American car manufacturers.”
He also shared that he had a “very good” conversation with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum about the tariffs, illegal immigrants, and drug trafficking.
