Frederick Douglass Moorefield Jr., a deputy chief information officer for the Secretary of Defense, was arrested Thursday on charges of promoting and furthering an animal fighting venture. He is accused of running an illegal dog fighting ring for the past 20 years.
Moorefield allegedly used an encrypted messaging app to communicate with other dogfighters throughout the United States. He and his associates discussed training dogs for illegal dogfighting, exchanging videos about dogfighting, and arranging and coordinating dogfights. They also discussed betting on dogfighting, discussed dogs that died as a result of dogfighting, and circulated media reports about dogfighters who had been caught by law enforcement.
Moorefield and his associates used the names “Geehad Kennels” and “Razor Sharp Kennels” to designate their respective dogfighting organizations.
This is a serious allegation, and it is important to remember that dog fighting is a felony in the United States. If convicted, Moorefield could face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
