GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas – A tragic and deadly crash occurred on Saturday evening, involving a Texas City police unit and a white Honda Fit with two passengers. The incident took place at the intersection of FM 1765 and FM 2004 in Galveston County.
Both the driver and the passenger of the white Honda car were severely injured and taken to area hospitals. The police officer also sustained minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital.
Sadly, the driver of the Honda, believed to be in his 70s, was declared dead when he arrived at HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland Medical Center in Texas City.
The police officer was said to be responding to a call to assist La Marque Police Department at the time of the collision. Both the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and Galveston County District Attorney’s Office have started an investigation into the incident. As of now, no one has been determined to be at fault.
The woman passenger in the Honda was initially in critical condition and was taken to the trauma center at UTMB Health John Sealy Hospital. However, she is now reported to be in stable condition, as Major Ray Nolen of the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office stated.
