Houston Police Department has arrested and charged Cesar Hernandez with murder in the death of Jose Carlos Zapata, who was shot while crossing the street last year. The incident happened on August 21, 2020, in the 10200 block of Telephone Road.
Zapata was crossing the street with a family member when a suspect ran up behind the duo and fired multiple shots. Zapata was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on September 13.
Fortunately, the family member who was with Zapata was not injured.
Further investigation on the case led the Houston police to identify Cesar Hernandez as the suspect in the case. Hernandez, who is now 36, was arrested on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, by the HPD Southeast Crime Suppression Team and patrol officers.
