According to airport officials, a Japan Airlines aircraft, which was inbound and taxiing, struck the tail of a parked Delta Air Lines Boeing 737. The Delta aircraft was set to depart for Puerto Vallarta, carrying 142 passengers at the time of the collision.
SEA officials assured travelers that there was “minimal impact” on overall airport operations as the incident occurred on a taxi lane. Passengers on the Japan Airlines flight were safely deplaned and transported to the terminal, while Delta coordinated efforts to accommodate affected travelers.
Delta Air Lines issued a statement confirming the incident, according to KOMO News.
“While in sequence for deicing, the tail of a Delta 737 aircraft reportedly made contact with a wingtip of another airline’s aircraft. There are no reports of injuries for crew or customers on the flight, and we apologize for the experience and delay in travels.”
The airline also confirmed it will cooperate with aviation authorities in a full investigation.
As of 11 a.m., SEA operations were working with both airlines to manage the situation and facilitate smooth travel for affected passengers. Officials are still assessing the extent of the damage to both aircraft.
