Three Nigerian students, Omolade Olaitan, Emmanuel Okohoboh, and Paulette Ojogun, were removed from the enrollment list at Swansea University, UK, for paying their school fees a few hours late, SparoBanks learnt.
The students had explained to the school that their school fees came late as a result of the cash crunch that hit Nigeria earlier in 2023. However, Swansea University has refused to listen to their explanation and has asked them to pack their bags and go home.
The deadline for the payment of fees was March 27, 2023. Omolade Olaitan paid her fees on March 29. She said that she received an email from the university confirming her payment, but the university later told her that she could no longer enroll because her payment did not come in before the deadline.
Emmanuel Okohoboh also paid his fees after the deadline. He said that he had to sell two parcels of land to raise his fees. He is now facing deportation.
Paulette Ojogun paid her fees after the deadline as well. She is enrolled for a marketing management degree and is very upset about the situation.
She said that she is happy to be in Swansea and is enjoying her studies, so she does not understand why the university is taking her education away from her just because her fees came in late.
